Lagos, Portugal – our home port is easily the most loved and respected marina and town on the whole of the Algarve. With excellent facilities, connections and perhaps most importantly consistentoffshore breezes, we chose Lagos out of all the other marinas on the coast through experience – just as the majority of other true sailors do. The quality of the marina itself being underwritten by the fact that it is the only one on the Algarve to hold the prestigious Euromarina Anchor Award, European Blue Flag and The Yacht Harbour Association’s 5 Gold Anchor Awards!
We consider that our location is the best that any school in Portugal can offer. Not only is the marina second to none but by being on the west of the Algarve we are able to take advantage of the wind gradient that exists along the coast. Whilst other schools further East may experience little or no wind on some days, Lagos more than often enjoys a dependable Northerly breeze averaging F4 or F5 on a typical summers days. If your training requires more wind then we can head west towards Sagres and Cape St Vincente, if a little less wind would be preferable then we can simply head east – perfect!
Locally known as the ‘velcro strip’ (as it’s difficult to tear yourself away….), all of our clients agree that Lagos is the pick of the coast. Portugal itself is a truly beautiful country and the Algarve in particular provides a perfect 150 Miles of superb and interesting sailing coastline. The year round climate is idyllic with temperatures averaging 30 deg C during the summer months and virtually no rain between April and the end of October. The climate is perfect for sail training as it is never too hot nor too cold to concentrate. We confidently offer true – year round sailing options. As a bonus, the Atlantic provides a very realistic tidal condition with a range in tides of up to 4m.
