We are keen to stress that we never follow a set program for the week – all courses are carefully designed to suit both the weather and the students who are on board. To give you a flavour of what your week might involve – we normally meet our students at 7pm in a bar in Marina de Lagos on the day they arrive (usually Sunday), we deliver a brief introduction to the boat to ensure that you know all that you need to for your first night aboard. We then retire to a local restaurant to sample some local cuisine, get to know each other and chat about the week ahead. The training will commence at about 9.30am on Monday morning. Your instructor will firstly cover the very important subject of safety on the boat, this may take a couple of hours but the content is essential for your future sailing. After that is completed we head out into the Bay of Lagos to enjoy some sailing whilst getting used to the boat and each other. We commonly return to Lagos late afternoon so that there is no pressure on any of the students to passage plan or look at pilotage.
On the second morning we usually head along the coast perhaps heading east to visit Portimao, Albufeira or Vilamoura, maybe spending a night on a beautiful anchorage or experiencing tricky pilotage into the rivers at Alvor or Faro. Because of our great location on the coast we also have the option to sail west and see the beautiful cliffs along the coast maybe anchoring at Beliche or the fishing village of Sagres…perhaps carrying on to Cape St Vincente (the end of the world…!) to experience the real Atlantic. During the week we will also incorporate some night sailing – this will not be long hours or through the night and an endurance test but is intended to give you a flavour of the magic of being on the water in the dark. We return to Lagos on Friday afternoon and after the boat clean we head ashore for a de-brief, certificate presentation and reminisce about the great week.
