Our ‘second’ yacht, new to us in 2010, is the widely acclaimed and racy X-35 – not a common name within schooling circles perhaps but a legend within the racing fraternity. X-yachts of Denmark are so proud to have one taken up in school use, they wrote a 3-page article about us in their yearly magazine.
She is a beautiful, head turning boat and an absolute treat to sail. Although a highly acclaimed racing boat most people are very surprised at the level of accommodation down below – again she has 3 comfortable double cabins, a large saloon with dining table and a full galley with a large fridge. She also has hot water in the galley and heads, an electricity point and a radio/CD player which is connected to BOSE cockpit speakers. Chill out or pump it up!
The electronic equipment on board is outstanding. As well as having an up to date GPS/Chart Plotter, she also has a full Nexus/Silva race instrument package with displays down below, in the cockpit and mainly on the mast front. Ever remember what it was like when cars first got red backlights in their instruments and how racy that made them feel? Wait till it goes dark and you’re on Firefly.
She is available for standard RYA courses – especially offering a new experience for our more advanced students who have already spent several weeks on Annecy or similar cruising yachts. She has new Dacron training sails (Quantum/Hyde) as well as a storm jib and tri-sail (North). Firefly is also available for our DWP (downwind package) or PSP (performance sails package using a full new suit of beautiful carbon Kevlar Quantum sails) along with specific courses in race training and even race campaigning.
